Darwin’s Hidden Courtyard Cafe
Specialty coffee, Japanese soufflé pancakes, and fresh brunch under the frangipani trees. A Darwin institution since 2010.
Our Story
Four Birds Cafe was born when sisters Louisa and Pippa Ainsworth — raised on a cattle station south of Adelaide River — returned to Darwin and couldn’t find a decent avo on toast. So they opened their own place, and Darwin’s cafe scene hasn’t been the same since.
Tucked away in Star Village Arcade on the site of Darwin’s first cinema (the 1929 Star Theatre), our courtyard is a tropical escape from the CBD bustle. Breakfast under the frangipani trees, with specialty coffee and a menu that’s earned us 400+ reviews across Google and TripAdvisor.

Our Menu
From signature Japanese pancakes to Darwin’s best coffee, every dish is made fresh with quality ingredients.
Consistently rated Darwin’s best. Creamy, well-balanced, and made to perfection — from flat whites to house-made almond milk lattes.
Our signature fluffy, cloud-like pancakes served with seasonal toppings. Light, airy, and absolutely worth the visit.
Smashed avocado on sourdough with crumbed haloumi, poached eggs, zucchini fritters, and more — proper brunch done right.
Decadent butterscotch muffins, banana bread, nutty coconut vegan slices, and a rotating display of cakes baked in-house daily.
Strong gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options across the menu. Alternative milks including house-made almond and Bonsoy.
Haloumi bagels, four-cheese toasties, fresh salads, and paninis. Perfect for a quick lunch in the courtyard.
